If you fail and do not learn from the experience, the future only holds more dramatic failure. The opposite is also true; if you fail and learn from it, the future will hold success.
Many leaders are allergic to the idea of failure. Ego may be part of the reason because success, unfortunately, can create big heads. However, many hard-working entrepreneurs believe failure creates success.
Shark Tank investor Barbara Corcoran said she looks to invest in individuals who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds for that very reason.
How I Did It. Scientists are not afraid on being wrong on their way to being right. This is the same idea behind innovation. The innovation curve of a startup reflects how a company learns based on trial and error. Too often we only hear about the success of Google and Facebook, but the more common story is about the entrepreneurs who fail multiple times before they nail it.
Once you understand how to change the potential outcome next time, try again. The key is to understand how you can modify your approach so you change the outcome. Every new agent was pushed to the point of failure. He always knew the answer no matter what the question was.
I once asked him how did he get to be so knowledgeable, and he basically said the only reason he knew so much was because he had made so many mistakes and had no choice but to fix them himself. I learned that lesson myself years later from making, and fixing my own mistakes. In fact, I once almost wiped out all the accounts in the database for one of our VERY senior managers. It was only past wisdom that had taught me the value of backups that allowed me to fix that mistake.

Edison certainly did not give up on his dream to create the lightbulb. He failed a times before he invented a product we still use today. Through a three-step process of Explore, Embrace and Excel, we can change the way we view failure from something deterring to something encouraging. If you left your comfort zone and were faced with failure, embrace it knowing that it will be a valuable lesson in the future. Find the positive take-aways from your personal experiences of failure, and utilize them to fuel success.
First, acknowledge that failure is by no means the end of the world. Realize that failure is temporary, and that something good is happening here. It is also comforting to remember that your persistence and dedication to your goals will eventually be rewarded with success. Recognizing this gets easier with repetition and practicing positive self-talk. Routine failing means you are actively doing something to move forward and get outside of your comfort zone. When we remain still, we strictly limit ourselves in what we can achieve.
Routine failing means taking daily risks, like a task you are unsure if you can handle, ignoring negative thoughts and comments from yourself and others, and leaping into the unknown. Instead of overthinking for the purpose of avoiding failure, put that attentive energy into listening to your gut instinct. When we look up to someone as a role model or mentor, we picture them as being flawless.
