Click the "Restore" button again to begin restoring the factory default settings and software on the device. Method 3. Use this method if iTunes prompts for a passcode. If you can't restore your iPod using the iTunes method above because you're prompted for a passcode, or you've never used your iPod with iTunes before, you'll need to put your iPod into Recovery Mode. If you have an existing backup, you'll be able to load it. Method 4. Use this method if Recovery Mode doesn't work. Like Recovery Mode, you won't be able to create a backup before your iPod is restored. Your iPod will need to be turned off completely before you can enter DFU mode.

Continue to hold the Home button after releasing the Power button. Continue holding the Home button for another ten seconds. Your screen should stay black, but iTunes should report that it has detected your iPod in Recovery mode.
You can now release the Home button. Click "Restore" to begin the restore process. Your iPod will begin restoring, which may take a little while to complete. Once the restore is complete, you can setup your iPod as new. If you have an existing backup, you'll be able to load it, otherwise all of your existing data will be lost. Once you have reset the iPod, you can access the device again. However, after a reset, most of your content remains but your settings get restored to the iPod's default configuration.

The Nano is really easy to reset if you forgot iPod password without iTunes being available. Connect your iPod Nano to a power source if you have one available. You can also run off the battery if needed. Just make sure it has a good charge. Continue the simultaneous hold for a good eight seconds. This will send the iPod Nano into a reset. If it does not work, you may not have held the buttons down at the exact same time.
Repeat the same process one more time to reset and unlock the iPod. The Shuffle model has a process that differs from the Nano. Go ahead and slide the switch to the Off position, and wait for a full five seconds. Return the switch to the On position and hold until the green stripe appears.
